Your pelvis helps you walk, run, and lift weight off the ground. It also contributes to proper posture.

An anterior pelvic tilt is when your pelvis is rotated forward, which forces your spine to curve. It’s often caused by excessive sitting without enough exercise and stretching to counteract the effects of sitting all day. If you have an anterior pelvic tilt you may notice that the muscles in the front of your pelvis and thighs are tight, while the ones in the back are weak. Your gluteus and abdominal muscles may also be weak. All of this can cause:

A basic bridge stretches the stabilizers of the posterior chain, including your hip abductors, gluteus maximus, and hamstrings. As antagonist stabilizers for the bridge move, the rectus abdominis, obliques, and quadriceps get a workout as they maintain stability.

What is the purpose of hip bridge exercise?

They can help you to build strength, by building muscle and power at the backs of your legs and your lower back too. This, in turn, helps to improve your stability. People who perform hip bridges regularly also tend to have better posture, as a result of adding extra strength for holding your spine in alignment.
